CMS provides HCRIS source data files
and documentation for the

version of the files.
The Provider Reimbursement Manual

files have an instruction manual and worksheets.

might be helpful for identifying the worksheet, line, and column
of some of the most popular variables in the 2540-96
worksheets.
CMS might consider the 2540-96 rollup files to be unreliable.
