Health Trajectories of Chronic Disease and Subsequent DI Claiming
Investigators: Amal Harrati and Mark R. Cullen (Stanford University School of Medicine)
This project analyzes the 20-year longitudinal health trajectories that lead into DI application and enrollment. Individual health trajectories will be constructed for seven chronic conditions: asthma/COPD, arthritis, diabetes, depression, hypertension, ischemic heart disease, and musculoskeletal problems. The project links individual-level employment and health data to SSA administrative data to demarcate DI application and receipt. It will be one of the first studies to provide evidence of the role of long-term and cumulative health conditions on receipt of DI benefits.
